Um avião de passageiros nigeriano caiu hoje na parte sul da cidade de Port Harcourt, segundo oficiais de aviação. O acidente aéreo ocorreu quando o avião se preparava para aterrissar. Somente quatro das 110 pessoas a bordo sobreviveram.
O vôo, das linhas aéreas Sosoliso, estava indo para Abuja "fez uma aterrisagem forçada e incendiou-se, matando todos com excessão de quatro," disse a rádio Rythm FM. Segundo a emissora de televisão Silverbird, haviam 110 pessoas a bordo e 56 corpos foram recuperados.
"Sim, houve um desastre... estamos tentando estabelecer contato com Port Harcourt," disse Sam Adurogboye, porta-voz do Depertamento Nigeriano de Aviação Civil. "Chovia intensamente no momento do acidente", comentou.

Contrary to what press reports initially indicated, the airplane did not strike terrain 1200 m short of the runway. It appears that the DC-9 crashed on the runway, broke up and caught fire. The airplane also hit a culvert. Reports do not yet indicate whether it hit the culvert upon landing (just short or besides the runway) or during the accident sequence.
The airport is NOTAMed closed until 13 December, 16:15 (estimated).
