Biggest and the bestIn 2001, the airline announced the largest order in aviation history, with a mixture of 58 Boeing and Airbus craft totalling $15b. They followed this up in 2005 with the largest-ever order for Boeing 777s (a deal worth $9.7b) and, of course, more recently it ordered 58 in a deal worth $18.8b.

Dubai: Emirates said Wednesday that net profit for the financial year that ended March 31, 2010, leaped 415 per cent to $964 million.
The Middle East’s largest airline, has made a spectacular comeback to $964 million net profit from $268 million in the previous year, on the back of increased passengers numbers.
Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group, told reporters in Dubai on Wednesday that the carrier flew 27 million passengers in the financial year compared to 22.7 million in the previous year.
The results are a sharp turnaround from the 72 per cent decline in net profit logged by the Group, which includes travel firm Dnata, for the financial year ended on March 31, 2009. Net profit for 2007-2008 was $1..45 billion for the Group.
The latest spectacular results were achieved in spite of the aviation industry globally continuing to suffer from the ravages of the worldwide economic crisis.
Industry body IATA predicted last year that airlines would have to deal with a cumulative loss of $4.7 billion, adding to an industry debt of $170 billion.
