We appreciate your concerns on the prospective loss of miles. However, we are unable to speculate on eventualities.

Each individual case would be considered on its merits, but it is worth remembering that the Star Alliance network is, in effect, a marketing partnership. It is not an airline. Operational matters, such as scheduling, network management and marketing of their individual brands in their key markets are left to the individual carriers. The individual Star Alliance airline loyalty programmes are in no way related. Each airline runs its own independently with a different accumulation and redemption structure designed to compete in their respective market.
There are no plans to consolidate any of these in the foreseeable future.

For clarifying your doubts on the Smiles programme, we recommend contacting VARIG directly.
